BAK: Revealing the City through Memory is a cultural collaboration and artistic production project realized with the participation of young people from different cities of Turkey. The aim of BAK is for young people from cities and regions that are distant from each other to get to know each other and the different areas they live in; and it enables young people to work together to record the stories of these cities in film and photography projects.
The first workshop of BAK 2015 was realized in İzmir on 9 – 15 March 2015, with the participation of 31 young people from Aydın, Balıkesir, Batman, Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, İzmir, Mardin, Muğla, Şırnak and Urfa. Following the second workshop to be held in Diyarbakır; the shooting, production and post–production of projects will be finalized, and the video and photography projects produced within BAK 2015 will be presented in the framework of a screening and an exhibition program in İstanbul, Diyarbakır and İzmir in 2016.
Coordinated by Anadolu Kültür and Diyarbakır Arts Center, the photography sessions of the workshops are designed and led by Refik Akyüz and Serdar Darendeliler from Geniş Açı Project Office, the video sessions by Berke Baş and Can Candan from docİstanbul – Center for Documentary Studies, and social sciences and cultural studies sessions by Zeynep Gönen and İrem İnceoğlu.
